Spring ‘24

Learn about how collaboration leads to discovery in the Spring edition of Illuminate.

From the director

Our supporters and donors are fundamental to all we do at WEHI.

Take the stories of Jane, Dani and Lyn: three inspiring women in this edition of Illuminate, who are each making a significant contribution to our research.

Our cover story features an exceptional donation by Jane Hemstritch AO to develop a new pancreatic cancer research centre at WEHI. We honour Jane’s generosity and vision of a future where people with this devastating disease have access to personalised therapies.

For over a decade, Dani Breen has supported breast cancer research at WEHI, spurred by her own experience of breast cancer. Read about the fundraising she champions in her community.

Bequestor Lyn Mather  decided to leave a gift to WEHI in her Will because she was in awe of what our researchers achieve. She feels she’s not giving much, but she knows the difference even a little can make. What Lyn says couldn’t be more true.

The full cost of medical research covers every aspect of a research program. Traditional funding sources, like government grants, often don’t fund the essential costs that enable us to make a real impact on health.

We operate in an increasingly challenging funding landscape, with donations and philanthropic support playing a critical role in equipping our researchers with the tools, facilities and time to make the next big discovery.

Know that when you donate to WEHI, it really matters. You’re providing the brightest minds with what they need to translate innovative research into the treatments, diagnostics and devices we need to live healthier, for longer.
