Spring ‘25

Learn about how collaboration leads to discovery in the Spring edition of Illuminate.

From the director

At WEHI, discovery is only the beginning. Our mission is to understand biology and translate it into real-world impact – from the lab bench to the patient bedside.

This vision is powerfully embodied in our partnership with the Royal Melbourne Hospital. Through initiatives like the Snow Centre for Immune Health and the Colonial Foundation Diagnostics Centre, we’re embedding scientific discovery directly into clinical care. Read about how clinical knowledge informs our science, and vice versa.

The Hemstritch Centre of Excellence for Pancreatic Cancer Research is another shining example. The centre aims to transform outcomes for one of Australia’s deadliest cancers through clinician-scientist collaboration. Their PURPLE platform is already fast-tracking trials and shifting how we understand and treat pancreatic cancer. Meet two leaders driving discovery.

Proximity, partnership and purpose can accelerate translation, as these stories show. Whether it’s a blood test that guides chemotherapy or organoids that predict drug response, important lab-based findings are increasingly moving quickly into the clinic – saving lives now and laying the foundations for future breakthroughs.

Finally I hope you enjoy our updated design for Illuminate, developed to bring you closer to the stories of science, discovery and impact that define WEHI.
