Advancing precision medicine for Parkinson’s

Project: Clinical subtyping

Aim

To understand Parkinson’s causes, diverse presentation and complexity.

Approach

To establish a network of linked Movement Disorder Clinics, initially in Victoria, New South Wales and Tasmania, to share patient biosamples and data using a standardised protocol to include longitudinal sampling, clinical progression, UPDRS, clinical neurological function examinations and consideration to environmental factors.

Clinical team

Outcomes

This project aims to deliver alignment between clinical and biological subtypes of Parkinson’s through a connected network of clinics using a standardised protocol.

We aim to develop the use of artificial intelligence as a complement to clinical measures, such as the UPDRS to provide a platform for data and sample sharing (including prodromal Parkinson’s) to aid the discovery of biomarkers for the subtypes.

Ultimately this project will determine the biological mechanisms behind the progression of Parkinson’s in these new biologically driven clinical subtypes.
