Professor Bas Bloem is Professor of Neurology and Director of the Centre of Expertise for Parkinson & Movement Disorders at Radboud University Medical Centre in Nijmegen, The Netherlands. An internationally recognised leader in Parkinson’s disease research and care, he has authored more than 1,200 publications and is consistently ranked among the world’s leading experts in Parkinson’s disease.

Professor Bloem founded the Radboudumc Centre of Expertise for Parkinson & Movement Disorders and co-founded ParkinsonNet, an innovative healthcare model that has transformed Parkinson’s care across the Netherlands and internationally. His research spans gait and balance disorders, healthcare innovation, wearable technologies, artificial intelligence, and strategies for Parkinson’s disease prevention.

A highly cited neuroscientist and recipient of numerous international honours, including the Stevin Prize, appointment as Knight in the Order of the Dutch Lion, and the Robert A. Pritzker award from the Michael J. Fox Foundation for outstanding leadership in the Parkinson field. Professor Bloem combines scientific excellence with a deep commitment to improving the lives of people living with Parkinson’s disease through innovative health care solutions including implementation of wearable technologies and AI strategies. His recent work has also focused on prevention, emphasising the importance of understanding and eradicating environmental drivers of Parkinson’s.
