WEHI Reconciliation Seminar hosted by the Reconciliation Committee
Professor Sandra Eades AO Deputy Dean Indigenous and Rowden White Chair School of Population and Global Health Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences, University of Melbourne
About the speaker We are honoured to welcome Professor Sandra Eades, whose family are Noongar from the Minang, Goreng and Kaniyang clans of south-west Western Australia. Professor Eades has made outstanding contributions to the epidemiology of Indigenous child health in Australia and provides national leadership in Indigenous health research.
In 2003, she became Australia’s first Aboriginal medical doctor to be awarded a PhD. That same year, she was named NSW Woman of the Year for her work examining how social determinants, such as housing, impact infant health. She now leads an NHMRC Centre for Research Excellence focused on Aboriginal child and adolescent health and is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences.
About the seminar As part of National Reconciliation Week 2026, WEHI’s Reconciliation Committee invites staff and students to attend a special seminar with Professor Sandra Eades, a nationally recognised leader in Aboriginal health research.
This year’s theme, All In, calls on all Australians to take meaningful, everyday action towards reconciliation. It reminds us that reconciliation is not passive, nor the responsibility of First Nations peoples alone – it requires collective commitment.
This seminar forms part of WEHI’s regular scientific seminar series and will focus on Professor Eades’ research in Indigenous child and adolescent health.
All staff and students are warmly encouraged to attend. External audiences are also welcome to join via livestream.
Let’s come together to listen, learn, and reflect on how we can be All In.
