Our brains control every aspect of our being, from the biological functions keeping us alive to our movements, thinking, perceptions and feelings.

Researcher Melody studies how genetic mutations can cause brain cells (neurons) to malfunction, leading to neurodevelopmental disorders and intellectual disabilities.

This image shows a structure of neurons in red with their nuclei in blue. Culturing neurons in the laboratory allows researchers to observe how they interact in order to better understand how genetic abnormalities disrupt normal brain development and function.

The aim of Melody’s research is to improve the treatment and prevention of neurodevelopmental disorders.
