Like coral in the sea, blood vessels are seen branching out into the tissue of the lung in this 3D light sheet microscope image.

PhD student Sabrina’s research is tracking how cancer cells travel via the bloodstream and are able to leave blood vessels to seed secondary tumours or metastases in other organs like the lung.

Her work aims to provide a better understanding of the interaction between blood vessels and cancer cells, and insights into potential therapies that could be used to stop cancer cells spreading.
