Like the patterned coat of a tiger, bold stripes of inflammation and scarring streak through diseased muscle.

This image reveals vivid trails of inflammation (yellow) and damage (magenta) – warning signs that healthy muscle is being replaced by fibrotic scar tissue (orange).

This permanent scarring, known as fibrosis, is the hallmark of chronic inflammatory muscle diseases such as myositis. Over time, the tiger’s bite leaves its mark: permanent muscle deterioration, lifelong disability and reduced quality of life.

Researchers are working to neutralise these damaging processes – blocking destructive pathways to protect and preserve muscle strength and improve life for people living with chronic muscle diseases.
