I Remember It All Too Well
This 3D moving image shows a mouse lymph node after a successful immune response to a virus.
The blue outer areas are B cell follicles, where antibody-producing B cells are located, and pink inner regions are the T cell zone, home to virus-fighting T cells. Memory T cells are coloured yellow – these special immune cells stay in the body long after an infection is gone, ready to respond faster if the same virus returns.
Brigette and her team discovered that memory T cells settle long-term in specialised niches in the lymph node periphery, outside the T cell zone. Understanding this strategic placement could help us design better, longer-lasting vaccines.
