Cellular Mosaic

The bright colours in this image are a mosaic of mouse liver cells, each uniquely marked for identification. Philip’s research uses genetically modified mice to mutate different cells within the liver and determine whether they are responsible for causing tumours.
By uncovering how liver cancer starts and why certain cells become cancerous, WEHI scientists are opening the door to smarter, more targeted treatments.
This work places WEHI at the forefront of international liver cancer research, driving new discoveries and offering hope to people affected by this devastating disease, which is the third-leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide.
