Gifts in memory

Creating an online memorial fundraising page is a meaningful way to honour the life of a loved one while supporting life-saving medical research.  Through WEHI’s MyCause fundraising platform, you can create a personalised tribute page where family and friends can make a donation, share memories, upload photos and leave messages of support.  

Your page can include photos, videos, personal stories or a message about why supporting WEHI is meaningful in your loved one’s memory, creating a lasting tribute that reflects their life, values and legacy.  

Once your page is live, it’s easy to share with family and friends via email, social media, a direct link or QR code. Helpful tools are also available to track donations, thank supporters and post updates throughout your fundraising journey.

General research donations are especially powerful. They allow us to respond quickly to emerging priorities and direct funds where they’re needed most, often to areas that receive less public attention but have the potential for major impact.  

However, if you would like donations made in memory of your loved one to support a particular area of research, we would be pleased to help. Our team can discuss options and provide guidance on directing gifts towards an area that reflects their interests, experiences or values.  

Please contact our team to discuss your preferences.  

We can provide donation envelopes for individual gifts or send a batch of envelopes for distribution at a funeral service. These can be sent to you or to the funeral director.  

To indicate your preference for donations in lieu of flowers amongst your family and friends, we suggest including a message in the funeral notice:  

“In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute, 1G Royal Parade, Parkville, Victoria 3052.”   

To arrange donation envelopes or discuss memorial giving options, please contact our team.  

Each donation received in memory of your loved one that contains a name and an address will be acknowledged with a thank you letter and receipt.

An acknowledgement will be sent to the family to let them know who has donated on request.

Donate online directly to WEHI at Donate to Medical Research. Please indicate that the gift is in memory of your loved one when prompted.

If you or your guests would prefer to donate by post, you can download and complete our donation form. Completed forms can be returned using the details provided on the form.

US supporters can donate via the Chapel & York US Foundation, nominating The Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research as a recipient.  

Donations to WEHI of $2 or more are fully tax deductible.
