Dr Sherri Christian completed her PhD at the University of British Columbia in 2004 under the supervision of Dr Mike Gold. The focus of her PhD was on signaling in B lymphocytes. She did two post-doctoral fellowships, both on cell signaling, before obtaining her current position at Memorial University of Newfoundland in 2010, where she is now a full Professor. Her current research focus is on cell-cell communication between normal cells or normal and cancer cells. Her talk will focus on work from her lab studying extracellular vesicles (EVs) secreted from B cells. These bioactive EVs are specifically released from B cells in response to engagement of the pro-apoptotic receptor CD24 and carry functional receptors between B cells. She will discuss the role of these EVs including potential cell targets as well as the signaling pathway that regulates their release.
