Professor Dominic Thyagarajan is a Neurologist with a special interest in the medical and surgical treatment of movement disorders, including Parkinson’s disease and related conditions, such as tremor, dystonia, including blepharospasm, and tic disorders.

Graduating from the University of Melbourne, he is now an adjunct Professor in Neuroscience at Monash University and has public appointments at The Alfred Hospital and Monash Medical Centre. Until recently, he was Director of Neurology at Monash Medical Centre, and before that, Director of Neurology at Flinders Medical Centre.

Professor Thyagarajan obtained his undergraduate and postgraduate research degrees at the University of Melbourne and did his physician training and neurology specialisation at St Vincent’s Hospital (Melbourne) and The Alfred Hospital (Melbourne). He subsequently held fellowship positions in the USA at the Mayo Clinic (Minnesota) and Columbia Presbyterian Medical Centre (New York) as an NHMRC CJ Martin Fellow. On returning to Australia he was appointed the head of Neurology at Flinders Medical Centre, where he established an integrated stroke unit and a comprehensive deep brain stimulation program for movement disorders.
