Francisco Leon, MD, PhD, is an immunologist and entrepreneur. He is the Founder and CEO of Tolerance Bio, a biotech focused on the preservation and regeneration of the thymus to prevent and treat immune diseases to extend healthspan.

 

Francisco career spans academia (NIH) and biopharma (BMS, MedImmune/AZ, Centocor/Janssen/JNJ, Celimmune/Amgen, Provention/Sanofi). Two of his co-founded companies were acquired by Pharma: Celimmune, focused on celiac disease, acquired by Amgen in 2017; and Provention Bio, focused on autoimmunity, acquired by Sanofi in 2023. He has served as co-founder, CEO, CMO, CSO and Board Director of several innovative immunology biotech companies, including active companies Paulex (diabetes), Praetorian (cavities/gingivitis vaccines), Avalor (osteoarthritis), Lapix (autoimmunity), VaxDyn (bacterial vaccines) and Glutenostics (celiac disease diagnostics).

 

He has co-authored over 100 peer-reviewed scientific articles and book chapters, and over 20 patents, and has led or participated in the development of 6 drugs which have reached the market, most recently teplizumab (TZIELD®) for the delay or prevention of the onset of clinical Type 1 Diabetes.
