Dr Haloom Rafehi is a senior research officer and bioinformatician in the Population Health and Immunity Division at WEHI. Her research is focused on the discovery of novel genetic variations that cause rare neurological disorders such a cerebellar ataxias, with particular emphasis on the discovery and characterisation of pathogenic repeat expansions. Her work on the genetics of ataxia has led to the discovery of two novel pathogenic repeat expansions that are amongst the most common causes of adult-onset ataxia world-wide, and has been pivotal for the improved genetic diagnosis of people living with these disorders.
