Drug discovery by AI – Promises vs Practicalities

Craig’s background is in structural biology and computational drug discovery. He has more than 25 years’ experience, including 13 years in the biotech industry in a range of roles including Principal Scientist and Head of Biology. His work has primarily focused on anti-infective drug discovery, with extensive research in antiviral and antimicrobial drug discovery as well as on other microbial diseases such as malaria.

 

Craig is currently employed in the Microbial Screening and Production team in the Biologics R&D group as part of CSIRO’s Biomedical Manufacturing business unit based at Clayton in Melbourne. He is also the theme leader for Innovative Bioproduction Platforms in the CSIRO Advanced Engineering Biology Future Science Platform. He continues to work on anti-infective drug discovery research as well as protein structure – function, novel methods for chemical biosynthesis and the application of AI and machine learning to drug discovery.
