A new report released by AAMRI Victoria details institutes that have experienced, or anticipate impacts, to their operations because of funding challenges relating to the true cost of research.
While WEHI’s financial position is strong, the funding environment presents substantial pressures.
Funding the true costs of research, from equipment and cyber security to everyday expenses like power bills, is a major challenge that involves broad support to address, including from government and philanthropy.
WEHI recognises the strength that comes from a collaborative and dynamic Victorian and Australian medical research sector.
We support AAMRI’s call for the Victorian Government to invest an additional $60m per annum to meet the indirect costs of research, supporting medical research institutes to make the breakthrough discoveries helping us all live healthier, longer lives.
