Uncovering the regulators of human haematopoietic ageing

Project details

Haematopoiesis sustains lifelong blood and immune cell production. As we age, this process becomes dysregulated leading to defective immunity and increased susceptibility to diseases.

In this project, students will utilise a novel human haematopoietic culture system to model blood development from donors across different age groups. By combining cellular barcoding with single-cell RNA sequencing, students will be able to track the output of individual haematopoietic stem cells to identify the transcriptional regulation underlying age-associated dysfunction.

Students will also employ CRISPR tools to perturb these putative regulators of ageing and validate their roles.
Ultimately the students will gain experience in cell culture, molecular biology and contribute to cutting edge science with the goal of finding novel targets capable of restoring youthful haematopoietic functions. “
