Professor Doug Hilton champions fundamental science
and its transformative impact on our lives.

Professor Doug Hilton AO has been named the 2020 Melburnian of the Year for his leadership and contributions to medical research and the Melbourne community.

He said he was humbled to receive the award, and that it was a reflection of WEHI and the broader scientific community.

“I’m proud to see how our researchers have rallied together, within WEHI and with our partners, to respond to COVID-19."

"We are working more collaboratively than ever before and with an incredible generosity of spirit,” he said.

“This year has challenged us in every respect. The staff and students at WEHI have been fantastic and I’m incredibly proud to lead an organisation filled with such amazing people.”

The Melburnian of the Year is chosen by the City of Melbourne each year and awarded to an inspirational role model, who has made an outstanding contribution to the city in their chosen field, as well as a significant contribution to the Melbourne community.
