Pete Young was unique, lighting up a room with his cheeky smile, infectious laugh and boundless energy. Kind, fun, authentic and adventurous, he found joy in others’ happiness, and lived fully on his own terms — living more in his short life than many do in a lifetime.

Pete Young died at the age of 26 after battling chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) and exhausting all treatment options.

To honour Pete’s life and help prevent other young lives from being lost to cancer, his mother Helen established the Pete Young Fund for Blood Cancer Research to support vital research at WEHl in perpetuity.

Leave a legacy in perpetuity

Helen and her husband are generously kicking off the fund with a $10,000 donation being matched by Deborah Henderson OAM and Nicholas O’Donohue with a multi year commitment of $30,000.

A CLL patient herself, Deborah battled the disease at the same time as Pete and was deeply affected by his death, which led her to help launch this fund to help WEHI.

It was a drug developed with early research conducted at WEHI which gave both precious months with their families when all other treatments failed.
