About

I am a medical oncologist with a particular research interest in upper and lower gastrointestinal cancers.

The overall goal of my research is to determine the best treatment and management for each patient’s individual cancer. This includes not only finding the optimal (combination of) treatments from currently available therapies, but also determining if there are any unique characteristics of the cancer that can be used to guide the timing and choice of treatment, as well as finding new strategies that may be effective against cancer.

Research interest

My clinical research includes prospective registry-based randomised clinical trials, translational biomarker studies, and molecular profiling, also termed ‘personalised medicine’. I am also involved in clinical registries that collect data for colorectal cancer, pancreatic cancer and gastro-oesophageal cancers. This allows for improved understanding of these malignancies in a real-world setting.

I am also involved in establishing pre-clinical models of cancer, known as organoid models. These models can be used to study and test for new treatments in a real-time fashion, making them a powerful tool for discovery research and to personalise cancer care.
