An excellent opportunity exists for a Research Assistant to join the Pasricha Laboratory in the Population Health and Immunity Division.

About the position

An opportunity exists for a Research Assistant to join the Pasricha Laboratory in the Population Health and Immunity Division. The successful candidate will be required to learn and/or apply a range of molecular biologic techniques (e.g. PCR, western blotting, RNA/DNA extraction, ELISA). The successful applicant will also be responsible for maintenance tasks required to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the laboratory. The Pasricha laboratory is a multidisciplinary team that works on aspects of iron and anaemia biology, and the opportunity may exist for the right candidate to develop a small project within the broader lab programme.  

Selection Criteria

The appointee will have a Bachelor’s degree in science or a related discipline. Applicants with an Honours degree are encouraged to apply. Experience in qPCR, RNA/DNA extraction and basic protein skills is required. Skills and experience in animal work would be advantageous. Precision in experimental work and record keeping, as well as excellent organisational skills are required. An independent and self-motivated mindset and the ability to work unsupervised as well as within a team is important.

Terms of appointment

This position is available for one year in the first instance with prospects for extension. Salary is HEW 5 - HEW 6 ($70,971 - $89,108), dependent on qualifications and experience. Up to 17% superannuation and very attractive salary packaging options are available.
