Thanks to an increasing list of generous donors the Institute is delighted to announce nine outstanding Metcalf scholars in 2019.

The fund was created in honour of colossus of science and beloved Institute researcher Professor Don Metcalf, who passed away in 2014.

Regarded as the ‘father of modern haematology,’ Professor Metcalf was an outstanding cancer researcher with a legacy of discoveries that have helped save the lives of millions of people.

“Don was always passionate about supporting the next generation of scientists following in his footsteps,” said Institute director Professor Doug Hilton.

“I am so proud that the Metcalf Scholarship Fund, now in its fifth year, continues to help kick-start the careers of undergraduate scientists with funding to support their work within Institute laboratories,” he said.
