Claire completed her PhD with Geoff McFadden at the University of Melbourne where she performed a genetic screen in malaria parasites and identified new apicoplast putative membrane transporters. In 2017, Claire moved to the UK for a postdoc with Oliver Billker at the Wellcome Sanger Institute and later relocated with the Billker Lab to Umeå University in Sweden. Claire followed on from previous genome-scale screens that used barcoded PlasmoGEM knockout vectors and conducted the first fertility screen in malaria parasites, which identified hundreds of putative fertility genes.
Claire returned to Australia in 2022 to join Jake Baum at the University of New South Wales Sydney and is now focussed on barcoding malaria parasites to study transmission dynamics.
