Not a trivial way to fundraise

Fifteen-year-old secondary school student Stephanie Cross held a fundraising trivia night that raised more the $9000 for our diabetes research.

All funds raised were donated to the Tim Bates Memorial Fund here at the institute. Tim was a loved member of the institute’s IT team who passed away from complications from diabetes in 2005.

“Tim was my dad’s best friend,” Stephanie said. “I was quite young when he passed away but I know he was a genuine and kind-hearted person and lived life to the full.”

Bringing together a community of supporters

Stephanie’s school, family and friends rallied to help make the fundraising event a huge success, with a total of $9201.10 raised on the night.

“I wanted to do my part to raise awareness and funding for research to make diabetes more manageable, so that other people may not have to suffer the same heartache as Uncle Tim’s family and friends,” Stephanie said.
