PhD students and postdocs met for a night of networking
and knowledge sharing.

Institute PhD students and postdocs eager to gain insight into the diverse careers of our alumni attended our inaugural alumni career speed dating event – a night of networking and knowledge sharing.

The event was the second in our Contemporary Alumni series, a careers and business-focused program for former and current Institute staff and students.

Alumni relations manager Dr Erika Cretney said students and postdocs were paired up according to career interests.

“Together they career speed dated 15 Institute alumni who work in diverse areas including policy, industry, communications, project management, medicine, business start-ups and more.

“A networking session followed, allowing students and postdocs to speak in depth with alumni whose career journeys peaked
their interest.”

Dr Cretney said alumni enjoyed sharing their knowledge and meeting such talented, enthusiastic young scientists.

“It was also clear that students and postdocs appreciated the honesty and career insights provided by alumni, with all attendees noting that career speed dating with alumni should be an annual event.”
