International Day of Immunology 2010

Walter and Eliza Hall Institute scientists will discuss the human immune system’s vital role in protecting us from disease at International Day of Immunology events in Melbourne on 29 April.

It’s only when our immune system fails that we notice its role in preventing diseases such as cancer, AIDS, multiple sclerosis and type 1 diabetes.

On the International Day of Immunology, some of Australia’s top immunologists will give a public lecture on what improvements understanding immunology has brought to human health and what the future may bring.

Interactive displays and working immunologists will be available throughout the day to illustrate how we all benefit from immunological research.

About the International Day of Immunology

The Day of Immunology was established in 2005 by the European Federation of Immunological Societies. It is held annually on 29 April and aims to strengthen public awareness of the importance of the immune system to each person’s health and wellbeing. The success of the European awareness-raising program has led to the International Day of Immunology being celebrated worldwide since 2007.
