Wednesday, September 6th 2006

The US-based Malaria Foundation International has announced accolades for two members of the WEHI community. Krystal Evans has been honoured as Graduate Student of the Year and Drew Berry as Animator of the Year.

The citation for Krystal recognises her "research studies [at WEHI] aimed at understanding the underlying cause of malaria anaemia, awarded as an outstanding up-and-coming scientist for her potential as an ambassador in the fight against malaria."

Krystal is now working in the Immunology and Infection Unit, Department of Biology, York University, UK.

Drew's citiation acknowledges him as an "Emmy Award winning artist ... awarded for his biomedical animations, which include historic educational animated [malaria] images that jump-started his career."

Drew is currently working on a new animation on apoptosis for WEHI.

WEHI congratulates Krystal and Drew for their prizes, which were won from highly competitive international fields of nominees.
