Congratulations to Professor Doug Hilton: a "Cosmos Bright Spark"

Tuesday, August 29th 2006

The Editorial advisory Board of the Australian science magazine "Cosmos" has selected Professor Doug Hilton, Head of WEHI's Molecular Medicine Division, as a "Bright Spark" - one of Australia's top ten scientists under the age of forty-five.

2006 is the inaugural year of the "Cosmos Bright Sparks" awards and the magazine's Editor, Wilson da Silva, hopes to make them an annual feature, "Giving our brightest young minds the sort of star treatment" they have earned. Among Doug Hilton's pioneering achievements are major discoveries about how the body's cells communicate with each other. These discoveries have the potential to be applied for improving health care, especially in the field of cancer. All ten Australian "Bright Sparks" are profiled in the August/September issue of "Cosmos".
