Dr Stephen Nutt, a Metcalf Fellow, Burnet Prize winner and Laboratory
Head in WEHI's Immunology Division, has been awarded a Pfizer Australia
Fellowship, worth $1 million over five years.
Dr Nutt's work focuses on blood cells and the development of the immune system, with the
ultimate aim of providing new therapies for autoimmune diseases and leukaemia.
His immediate research focus is to understand at the molecular level how the rare blood
stem cell has the ability to generate the multiple blood cell types involved in immunity
and inflammation.
Dr Nutt won the Fellowship against high quality competition from across the nation.
The Pfizer Fellowship is Australia's largest private sector medical research grant.
The Director of WEHI, Professor Suzanne Cory, commented, "Stephen Nutt's scientific
creativity and leadership are outstanding. He richly deserves this prestigious award."
