Congratulations to the General Manager of The Walter and Eliza Hall
Institute, Dr Margaret Brumby, who has been appointed as a Member in the General Division
of the Order of Australia - an honour widely recognised by the initials "AM".
Dr Brumby has been recognised "for service to medical administration
and management of biomedical research facilities, particularly The Walter and Eliza Hall
Institute of Medical Research."
Reflecting upon the honour accorded to her, Dr Brumby
commented, "It's
gratifying to see medical research recognised and valued by our community.
It is a privilege to work with a team of outstanding support staff,
who are committed to helping the research teams at The Walter and Eliza
Hall Institute. Over recent years, technologies and regulations have
changed dramatically, and it is a measure of their dedication that
all the support staff willingly take up these new challenges and constantly
learn new skills.
"Over the last eighteen years it has been my good fortune to
work with some extraordinary colleagues and mentors who have made my daily life so
challenging and rewarding. Sir Gus Nossal, Professor Don Metcalf and Professor Suzanne Cory,
in particular, are inspirational leaders."
The Director of WEHI, Professor Suzanne Cory, said, "Dr
Brumby's dedicated contributions over an eighteen year period have
significantly aided The Walter and Eliza Hall Institute to remain at
the cutting
edge of international research and to provide leadership to other national
research organizations."
