Postdoctoral fellows

The Walter and Eliza Hall Institute Post-Doctoral Association (PDA) represents the largest group of research scientists at the institute.

The purpose of the PDA is to conduct and promote activities that meet the professional development needs of members and to encourage participation of the post-doctoral scientists (postdocs) in all aspects of the Institute’s activities.

Considering the large proportion of postdocs that are from interstate or overseas, another purpose of the PDA is to provide support for these members and encourage interactions between members.

Information for current postdocs

The PDA runs social and career development activities. These include: seminars and workshops throughout the year on subjects such as grant writing, career progression, ethics and patenting as well as social events such as BBQs and sporting events. Current postdocs should see the PDA intranet page for more details.

Information for prospective postdocs

  • Visas, health insurance
  • Accommodation, transportation, furniture, bikes
  • Relocation expenses, living and food allowance
  • Salary sacrifice / smart salary
  • Bank accounts
