Flow Cytometry Data Storage and Analysis

Storage

WEHI users of analytical cytometers should move FACS data files to the FACS_DATA section of their K-Share server area. This can be done from the computer attached to the cytometer. Thence, data files are directly accessible from any Macintosh or PC on the WEHI network. Users may, of course, write specific data sets to CD or DVD at any time.

Extra-WEHI users may save data from most instruments to a USB device. Where this is not possible, FACS lab staff can assist in extracting the data files.

Files created from sort operations are stored in a K-share FACS_DATA area that is accessible to WEHI users. Special arrangements can be made to transport data for extra-WEHI users.

Analysis

WEHI's 'in house' program for dislaying and analyzing flow cytometry data is 'WEASEL', which is installed on institute Macs and PCs by the computer centre staff. A license code is available for WEHI users to download and install Weasel on home computers. Graphics displayed using Weasel can be saved in various formats and inserted into documents and presentations or opened in graphics editing programs. Numerical data can also be extracted for entry into spreadsheet or maths applications.

The Weasel program is available to external individuals or institutions (see the Weasel version 2 description).
