Booking Sorters and Analysers
WEHI Users
All cytometry schedules are displayed on line but there are separate systems for each of the analytical cytometers (DIY operation) and the cell sorters (Cytometry lab staff operation).
Analytical Cytometers
- Go to the online analyser schedule. [Mozilla Firefox is the preferred browser].
- Click on the time slot required and fill in the dialog. An internal phone number and cost centre code are required. The booking is immediate.
- Bookings may be altered or cancelled 24 hrs in advance without penalty.
- An important rule for cytometer operation is: before leaving an instrument running, check the online schedule. Only if you can confirm the next scheduled user of your instrument is coming, the instrument need not be shut down.
FACS Users Committee Regulation of Reserved Time on Analytical Cytometers
During prime time (9am-6pm):
- Each individual should book no more than 2 hrs per day on one cytometer.
- Each lab (including different individuals) should not book more than 4 hrs TOTAL time per day on one cytometer.
- Each lab should not book more than 12 hrs per week on one cytometer.
Cell Sorters (Cytometry lab staff operation)
- Go to the online cell sorter schedule. [Mozilla Firefox is the preferred browser].
- For a week where the schedule has already been set but free slots remain, click on the time slot required and fill in the dialog. An internal phone number and cost centre code are required. The request will not be processed until the next business day. A free slot may be seized immediately by in-person request to FACS staff.
- For a week as yet unscheduled, click anywhere in the week and fill in the dialog, giving up to 5 preferences for sorter, day and time. The request will be considered by the computerised scheduler on the next Monday morning.
After Hours Cell Sorting
Cell sorting services are usually at saturation and often it may be difficult to secure sufficient sorting time during normal hours. There are 2 alternatives for arranging sorting after hours:
- By special arrangement, a member of FACS lab staff may agree to an after hours run. There is never a guarantee that a staff member will be available.
- By special arrangement, users may be trained in sufficient basic Aria cell sorter operations to be able to continue sorting after hours. These sorts will be set up at 17:00 by FACS lab staff and continued by the user alone after 17:30. The training schedule should be arranged well in advance of any intended after hours sort.
External users
Cytometry services are provided to colleagues in neighbouring institutions as our schedules allow. Bookings on all instruments should be arranged in person or by phone to the laboratory (9345 2540).
