How to apply for Honours

To be accepted as an Honours student at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute, you must complete two application phases:

1. Application to the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute

All prospective students first need to identify their preferred student research project, discuss it with the prospective Honours supervisor at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute and reach an agreement with them.

You then need to provide:

  1. your curriculum vitae
  2. a cover letter outlining your research interests
  3. a copy of your academic transcripts.

Your application should be sent to: Student and Academic Administration, Walter and Eliza Hall Institute, 1G Royal Parade, Parkville, VIC 3052, Australia.

2. Application to the University of Melbourne

All prospective students need to lodge an application online via the University of Melbourne’s Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences. There are instructions for:

  • current local and international University of Melbourne students
  • local non-University of Melbourne applicants
  • international non-University of Melbourne Applicants

Once you have submitted your applications to the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute AND to the Universty of Melbourne, you will need to lodge your project preference(s) through the Honours Application Tracking System (HATS).

Note: It is essential that you have already identified which project(s) you wish to apply for by speaking to prospective supervisors, and have applied for Honours before you take this step.
