WESA - Walter and Eliza Hall Student Association

The Walter and Eliza Hall Student Association (WESA) is a committee made up of PhD and Honours students, and many of us have been UROP students. We can help you with any dilemma you might be facing, even if it’s just to point you in the right direction.

WESA represents the student body in academic issues and, more importantly, makes student life a lot more interesting. Activities include invited speakers, weekly sport, movie nights, pub nights and the all-famous Annual Student Retreat.

Get involved

Doing extra things outside your normal UROP, Honours or PhD studies is a great way to balance your study and also looks good on your CV. Things you can get involved with include:

  • Scientists in Schools - Form a 'partnership' with a teacher at a high school to enrich their teaching and spark their students' interest in science. You can do as little or as much as you like, and the time commitment is completely up to you.
  • GTAC - Demonstrate at the Gene Technology Access Centre at University High School. Get good experience and earn pocket money.
  • Join WESA - Elections are held at the end of the year. It's good fun.
