Demonstrator and school student at the Gene Technology Access Centre

Discovery tours of the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute

We offer discovery tours so that students, teachers and members of the general public can learn about our many discoveries, meet our scientists and visit some of our laboratories.

WEHI.TV explains the discoveries of our scientists through sophisticated and elegant animations.

The objective is to raise public understanding and awareness of medical science through regular collaborations, while retaining quality control, to ensure the science is accurate and easily understood.

Gene Technology Access Centre (GTAC)

The University High School (Parkville) established the Gene Technology Access Centre (GTAC) in late 2000 in collaboration with us and The University of Melbourne.

GTAC delivers education programs that provide:

  • all Victorian teachers and students with quality resources that assist the teaching and learning of molecular and cell biology
  • all Victorian school students with the opportunity to work in small groups with young scientists at the laboratory bench.

Visit the GTAC website to view the on-site programs for school groups

Science career talks

Is your school holding a careers day? Our scientists are available to visit schools to talk about their scientific journey and what it’s like to be a biomedical researcher.
