"better cancer outcomes through integrated and innovative research"
Programs
"Cancer Stem Cells" as a Target
(Investigators: Adams, Alexander, Cory, Hilton, Huang, Lindeman, Mann, Roberts, Scott, Strasser, Visvader)
We will establish whether tumours are maintained by a sub-population of tumour-initiating "cancer stem cells", and explore how they create the cardinal properties of tumour cells

Delineating the Hallmarks of Cancer - Pathway building and data integration
(Investigators: Alexander, Ernst, Forrest, Gibbs, Hibbs, Hilton, Lindeman, Nicola, Speed, Scott)
To identify and understand the genetic pathways that underpin cancer phenotypes using bioinformatics for the development of rational targeted therapies

Identifying critical pathways in tumours by RNA interference
(Investigators: Adams, Hibbs, Huang, Stacker, Visvader)
RNA interference will be used to explore the functional genetics of the cancer cell by identifying genes and pathways that are essential for cancer cell development

Targeting the host-tumour microenvironment
(Investigators: Ernst, Hibbs, Huang, Roberts, Stacker, Strasser)
By targeting the major signalling pathways that control the stromal components of a tumour we will be able to develop new agents for the treatment of primary tumour growth and metastasis

Oncogenesis screens and exploitation of tumour models to study cytotoxics and biological agents
(Investigators: Adams, Alexander, Cory, Ernst, Hilton, Huang, Lindeman, Roberts, Strasser, Visvader)
Mouse models that mimic either the molecular basis and/or the cellular characteristics of human tumours will be used in genetic screens to isolate tumour-intrinsic mutations and host response effects on tumorigeneis
The ACRF Centre for Therapeutic Target Discovery was launched by a generous donation from the ACRF in 2006.
The ACRF Centre for Therapeutic Target Discovery was formally
Inaugurated in August 2005 by a consortium that includes:
